Boo! Babe. 5 Cute DIY Halloween Costumes

Halloween costume ideas

Happy October! In other words, Happy Halloween. Not only is it the scariest month {in the best kind of way} but it’s one of the most creative months too. Whether you’re busy decorating your home, porch, picking pumpkins, or dipping candied apples–October is full of creative activities.

DIY-ing your own Halloween costume is one of our favorite things to do this time of year–have you seen our handmade floral crowns?

Regardless, we are feeling spooky! Here are our five do-it-yourself Halloween costume ideas to try.

DIY Halloween Costume Ideas:

  1. Cruella De Ville: This Brit & Co Cruella costume is so easy–we bet you already have everything you need on hand in your closet. A glam-Disney villain is always a crowd favorite.
  2. Woodland Animals: This Lauren Conrad woodland party animal DIY costume is so deer! Plus, it’s one of those costumes where you’re wearing a costume but feels as if you’re wearing normal everyday clothes. Love!
  3. Mermaid: We are blown away by the costume that The House That Lars made–a magical mermaid made from supplies {tink paper cutlery}. Do us a solid, make this and be this mermaid!
  4. DIY Letterboard Costume: The blog, Aww Sam is always amazing. Letterboards are so trendy (rn) and Sam’s take on a pink and white letterboard as a costume is the cutest!
  5. DIY Circus Performers: Another Lauren Conrad original, but who can’t get The Greatest Showman out of their head? This girly-glam (and kind of BOHO) circus performer costume idea is so creative and chic.

As for a few standouts in our shop this month…

We are loving:

Stay inspired!

Fall Favorites: 2018 Autumn Look Book

It’s hard to believe that we’re in the month of August! Some of us are doing major back-to-school-prep, others are heading to the dorms for the first time, & the rest of us are in that phase where we’re still holding onto summer, but looking at what we’ll be wearing come fall 2018.

True, it’s much too early to start pulling out the cable-knit sweaters, but subtle fall staples are okay to start integrating into our wardrobes right now. Here are a few of our fall 2018 favorites!

Bucket Hats

Hold onto your dad caps and wide brim hats–bucket hats are making a big comeback this fall. Sure, these circa 1990s’ caps give us major Clueless vibes, but we’re totally okay with that.

Plaid BDG Bucket Hat Urban Outfitters: $24.00

Bold Arm Candy

One or two bracelets (that pop) is an easy way to add a bit of flair to any OOTD. The rich brown and bone color of our exclusive NIIRVA Bone Bangle is perfect for fall.

Bone Bangle: $20.00

Plaid Pants

Once again, the 90’s have inspired us. Who else is loving the eclectic roundup of plaid bottoms? Whether they’re long pants, shorts or capris you can’t go wrong!

UO Casey Kick Flare Pant: $39.00

Block Heels

Mules had a fashion moment, but we’re scooping up all the block heels we can find. The suede & mustard yellow design of these Antro block heels are giving us all the vintage feels.

Anthropologie, Chio Suede Block Heels: $158.00

Let’s face, we still love texture and embroidered details. Our NIIRVA Bangle Purse is always a fall staple.

NIIRVA, Bangle Bag: $16.00

What to Wear & Bring to a Summer Picnic

Who’s enjoying summer? Has anyone attended any backyard BBQs, beach lunches, or outdoor family reunions? If you have something that involves food & fashion coming up this is the blog post for you.

What to Wear

When attending an outdoor party, you’ll want to feel comfortable & wear cool clothing–think seersucker, linen, light cotton, and other breathable fabrics. While you might want to go light on the layers (it’s always smart to pack a light sweater/cardi for chillier temps in the evening) you can dress up your look with accessories and shoes.

In our NIIRVA Shop, we love the idea of stacking textured bangles. Whether you wear on one wrist or two–a summer outdoor picnic is the perfect time to do so!

In addition to bangles, earrings are a great way to punch up your #ootd. Subtle statement earrings found in our shop are great pieces to be a little more playful.

Okay, let’s talk shoes! Woven flats and slides are so on-trend for summer. You know the straw and woven bags? Well, it’s transitioned into a major shoe movement too. Aside from woven slides, these Zara leather espadrilles/mules are perfect for BBQs! Plus, they’re on major sale!

What to Bring

It’s always polite to pack something to take to any picnic you’re invited to.

This Martha Stewart recipe for homemade cranberry-oat cereal bar is festive (and won’t spoil) for any outdoor gathering!

Okay, how perfect is this watermelon cookie cake hack by food and craft blogger Aww Sam? So easy and fun to take to any party.

If you’re hosting your own pool party you’ll want to have a signature cocktail. This coconut and cranberry raspberry daiquiri by Sugar and Cloth screams summer-perfection!

Yum! Yum!

“Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair…”–Susan Polis Schutz.

It’s Summer! We are officially breaking out the flip-flops, bikinis, and rosé bottles as summertime is the greatest time of the year!

In celebration of the most wonderful season, we’ve written a 2018 NIIRVA Summer Bucket List. Whether you want to add to your already existing bucket list or take inspiration from ours; we can’t wait to enjoy every bit of the sunny days ahead.

Attend the Pinknic: June 30th-July 1st is the return of the rosé and music festival on Governor’s Island dubbed ‘Pinknic.’ The festival is full of good food, rosé, pink hues, and good summertime vibes.

Charcoal Ice Cream: Ice cream is a summertime staple, but this summer, we’re getting adventurous eating, Charcoal Ice Cream.  At least if we hate the taste, it’ll make a good Instagram post!

Pools & Pool Floats: We’re hoping to cruise around the pool on either a giant golden swan or rose gold pink flamingo–really as long as it’s in the pool we’re not picky!

Sunflower Field: We can’t wait to find a sunflower field, pull over, and take plenty of photos–for the blog, of course!

Beach Bums: Hitting the beach is a summer-no-brainer! What we’re taking with us to the beach can all be carried inside this NIIRVA crochet bag–perfect for an ocean day!

Craft Flower Crowns: One summer day will be dedicated to picking wildflowers and then making them into flower crowns–we already have some crafty tips!

Drive with the Top Down: What’s a great way to kill a summer Sunday afternoon? Go for a country drive with the top down of your jeep or convertible. Beep. Beep!

Mamma Mia 2 Sing-Along: Did you hear? Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again is coming to theaters July 20th. Grab your besties and head to the theater to sing-along to our favorite ABBA tunes! How can we resist?

Coachella 2018

Hi friends! It’s that time of year again–Coachella! This year, Coachella runs through the weekends of April 13th and April 22nd! A few of the biggest names in the music biz are headlining the desert valley such as Eminem, Beyoncé, and The Weekend. Ticket holders {in this case, wristband wearers} will also hear other acts including, but not limited to Child, HAIM, Snail Mail, Slow Magic, and many more.

However, music at Coachella is only part of the experience–there’s other sites to see and things to Instagram.

The art scene at the festival grows each year. This year, expect displays and exhibits by Spectrum, SuperNova, Lodestar, and others.

True, there’s a slew of lodging options when staying at the festival, but one of the most chill experiences is to lodge in one of the camp’s Safari Lounges. Yes, it’s a posh experience with private parking options and cozy camp-room service, but a fun luxury for sure.

Of course, no trip is complete without savoring – and tasting – the music festival’s cuisine!  Coachella has a Bloody Mary Bar, a Farmer’s Market, Frankie’s Chicken and Waffles, Java GOGO, and so much more. You’ll not only be eating your way through Coachella but Insta-Storying it too.

Why not browse a few of our past {ahem, favorite} blog posts were we shared what to expect at Coachella and {the most important} what to wear.

Galentine’s Day Is Here

Galentine's Day Celebration

Galentine’s Day Quotes for Your Besties

Sure, we all know what day February 14th is…it’s Valentine’s Day. It’s unofficially the worst day to purchase flowers (as they’re overpriced)  and it’s nearly impossible to book a dinner reservation—anywhere! Maybe Valentine’s Day is a holiday that you well, love or maybe it isn’t a favorite of yours. Either way, there’s a better (lovelier) option called Galentine’s Day. This year, the ladies supporting ladies holiday falls on Wednesday, February 13th.

Yes, there is still plenty of pink hues, candy-coated chocolates, cutesy cards, and flowers involved, but with a fun female twist. Galentine’s Day (originally started as a day to celebrate good girlfriends and the single life) has grown into a somewhat feminist holiday full of catchy quips and #girlpower t-shirt and card slogans.

So, we have roundup a few of our favorite Galentine’s Day Quotes–we hope you love’em!

  • “You’re Like Really Pretty” Mean Girls
  • “Fries Before Guys”
  • “We need to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, and work. Or waffles, friends, and work. Doesn’t matter, but work is third.” Parks and Recs
  • “I’ll always let you preview pictures before I post them on Instagram”
  • “You’re a poetic and noble land mermaid” Parks and Recs
  • “Oh my god my girlfriends are everything to me! They celebrate with you, they cry with you, they hold you when you need to be held. They laugh with you! They’re mean with you! They’re always there and that’s a priceless thing to have!” Jennifer Lopez
  • “I believe in Red Lipstick”
  • “Happy Galentine’s Day! Overies before Broveries!” Parks and Rec

So, we hope you found some (can we say ‘inspired’) phrases to write on your Galentine cards this year. Hey! If you’d like to treat your boho besties this year we recommend a few items from our shop!

  • Any gal would love pearls–especially three layers!
  • Purple is the color of the year & so is the color of our amethyst necklace!
  • However, you can’t go wrong with a beaded cuff!
